Project Management of WMATA’s IAM Project
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority commonly referred to as Metro, is a tri-jurisdictional government agency that operates transit service in the Washington metropolitan area. WMATA was created by the United States Congress as an interstate compact between the District of Columbia, the State of Maryland, and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
WMATA provides rapid transit service under the Metrorail name, fixed-route bus service under the Metro bus brand, and paratransit service under the Metro Access brand. The authority is also part of a public-private partnership that operates the DC Circulator bus system. WMATA has its police force, the Metro Transit Police Department.
In addition to ongoing operations, WMATA participates in regional transportation planning. Recent projects include an extension of Metrorail to Dulles Airport, streetcar lines in the District and Northern Virginia, and light rail in suburban Maryland.
WMATA’s Department of Information Technology required an overall project management support to manage their Identity Access Management Platform. The support was required in terms of managing multiple ongoing projects in conjunction with the IAM platform, manage resources, project financials, schedules, and maintain quality standards defined by the WMATA project management lifecycle control guideline. Project Management support also included management of issues, risks, and project change requests to ensure successful and on-time project delivery and contribute to process improvement initiatives as it relates to improving project delivery.
V Group was working with WMATA as a direct service provider/vendor. As a vendor, V Group has provided end to end project management support for IBM Identity Access Management (IAM) Platform. Our Project Manager overlooks this project. The support includes the management of all aspects of the One Badge Access Control System projects and ProWatch Access Control System to ensure the overall program is aligned to and directly supports the achievement of strategic objectives, oversees day-to-day project activities and resources, and chairs the project management team meetings. The deliverables include project milestones, deliverables, dependencies, risks, and issues, communicating across leadership Identify and develop trusted adviser relationship with project and program stakeholders and sponsors Ensure that projects and programs are proceeding according to scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards. Our project management support program also ensures processes that become standard within the One Badge Program. The support also requires extensive continuous reporting on multiple projects including project success criteria results, metrics, test, and deployment management activities.
