Program Management for Dept.’s Enhancement and Development of Program

Overview

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT, pronounced "oh-dot") is the administrative department of the Ohio state government responsible for developing and maintaining all state and U.S. roadways outside of municipalities and all interstates in the state of Ohio with exception of the Ohio Turnpike. In addition to highways, the department also helps develop public transportation and public aviation programs. ODOT is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. Formerly, under the direction of Michael Massa, ODOT had also first initiated a series of interstate-based Travel Information Centers for the traveling public, which was later transferred to local sectors. The Director of Transportation is part of the Governor's Cabinet.

Project Scope

The Ohio Department of Transportation was looking for a vendor for directing work planning and scheduling along with managing, tracking project progress against project plans. Expertise across Team Foundation Server (TFS) and of Software Development Methodologies. End to End program management for Managing, and coordinating priorities for the complete life cycle of projects.


Solution

V Group as a prime vendor performed complete Program Management that included directing controls, administering, and regulating an enhancement or development program. We were responsible to drive the entire effort from start to finish ensuring that the program is completed on schedule and that the final product meets the business, technical, and established quality requirements.

Our team was accountable for the management of scope for the program and gaining agreement and approval of scope changes with customer representatives and affected stakeholders. As part of the deliverable, it was expected to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and customer representatives. Our team directed work planning and scheduling design work which involved Managing and tracking the program progress against the program plan. Major responsibilities of V Group for program management were to identify and manage program risk and develop risk mitigation strategies, track to closure. Anticipate issues and proactively address them. Resolve conflicts with sensitivity and tact. Coordinate the establishment of program standards and program-specific procedures.

V Group was responsible for project compliance with standards and procedures, capture and reporting of required program management metrics, tailor and baseline all program templates, develop and facilitate achievement of program service commitments and performance metrics, ensure that tasks provide value and support the strategic direction of the program and meet service commitments; conduct reviews with agencies. We also conducted a final program management evaluation review with stakeholders for approval upon program completion. V Group also Planned program-specific training and orientation needs.
