WebLogic Administration Support, NYSDOH

Overview

The New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH) is the department of the New York state government responsible for public health. It is headed by Health Commissioner Howard A. Zucker, M.D., J.D., who was appointed by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and confirmed by the State Senate on May 5, 2015. Its regulations are compiled in title 10 of the New York Codes, Rules and Regulations.

The New York State Department of Health is the Cabinet-level Department in the State of New York, which is the governmental body that bears the responsibility for ensuring public health in the State.

Project Scope

The State of New York: Department of Health required WebLogic Administration support to implement the ability to receive and send messages via the Direct Secure Messaging (DIRECT) protocol in support of public health reporting objectives.

The DIRECT transport protocol is the preferred mechanism for the “push” of health information. Implementation of DIRECT transport protocol will allow NYS DOH to accept information from Medicaid providers (i.e. Cancer case reporting or case reports to a Specialized Registry such as a notifiable conditions registry), to extract the contents from the secure message, and securely route the information to the appropriate public health registry for processing, and securely return an error or acknowledgement message response to the initiating provider’s DIRECT address.

Solution

The objective of the project included WebLogic Administration Support for administration of Oracle WebLogic Servers including deployment of Java applications using Administration Console and command-line and scripting tools like WLST.

V Group Inc. supported the client and understood the challenges that were present in the existing system. These challenges were reviewed by the team to overcome them ensuring smooth transitioning of the system.

In the first place, we provided support to install, upgrade, configure and manage WebLogic Administrative and Managed Servers. Provided maintenance and support for WebLogic Servers by setting up a cluster of servers and distributed applications and resources to the cluster. Also, created and configured Domains and performed Change Management in WebLogic Server environment. Helped in configuring Node Managers too.

Moving ahead, with a streamlined approach we facilitated the client in retrieving and analyzing logs to troubleshoot issues. We also authored deployment plans and configured data sources, including data connection pool management. Designed clustering architecture strategies for ensuring that application environments meet security best practices. Managed WLS security by configuring users, groups, roles and policies.

We performed all the given responsibilities with ease –

  • Implemented High Availability solutions including backup and recovery
  • Led performance tuning activities to maintain high service levels and system performance, capacity planning and management reporting about the health of the application environments
  • Provided technical support to application development teams in the development of projects running on the application server
  • Supported IBM WebSphere DataPower

This was achieved via excellent team work, as we helped the client to co-ordinate the work in order by allowing them to interact with the other product teams and other stakeholders.

Served as a liaison between Agency and solution’s contract, V Group Inc. supported the client in WebLogic Administration successfully, keeping up to date with the latest know-hows and trends.
