Overview

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority commonly referred to as Metro, is a tri-jurisdictional government agency that operates transit service in the Washington metropolitan area. WMATA was created by the United States Congress as an interstate compact between the District of Columbia, the State of Maryland, and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

WMATA provides rapid transit service under the Metrorail name, fixed-route bus service under the Metro bus brand, and paratransit service under the Metro Access brand. The authority is also part of a public-private partnership that operates the DC Circulator bus system. WMATA has its police force, the Metro Transit Police Department.

In addition to ongoing operations, WMATA participates in regional transportation planning. Recent projects include an extension of Metrorail to Dulles Airport, streetcar lines in the District and Northern Virginia, and light rail in suburban Maryland.

Project Scope

WMATA was looking for a vendor who can manage their project from end to end. The project was based on PeopleSoft HCM technologies and the vendor was supposed to conduct requirement gathering, analysis of functional as well as technical requirement, development, testing, and schedule management.

Solution

V Group as a prime vendor was required to elicit and documents requirements and specifications from functional users and subject matter experts. We translated customer requirements into the best fit within the application and developed processes and documentation that supported the SDLC.

Our team developed and maintained standard systems requirement documents including but not limited to: business process workflows, Functional Requirements Documents; Requirement Traceability Matrix, and use cases. V Group team was involved in application configuration, Implementation of complex enterprise PeopleSoft system configurations and an end to end development design. As part of the deliverable, we also Created business process models and identified business process improvements. Thorough Reviews and comments were provided by our experts on the proposed functional/capability configuration for each of the product modules. V Group applied its HCM knowledge and industry best practices in developing the business processes and procedures.
