IT Infrastructure Support, WMATA

Overview

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, commonly referred to as Metro, is a tri-jurisdictional government agency that operates transit service in the Washington metropolitan area. WMATA was created by the United States Congress as an interstate compact between the District of Columbia, the State of Maryland, and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Project Scope

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority required IT Infrastructure Support expertise for the design, implementation, and management of industry-critical network security structure including - critical IT infrastructure, users, and applications.

Solution

The objective of the project included but not limited to IT Infrastructure Support expertise for easing the network security structure.

V Group Inc. provided technical design and development expertise using cross-platform technologies to present complex technical constructs to business users in an easier manner. We worked with other team members in designing and delivering the milestone applications, in line with the business requirements.

With a methodical approach, the project was broken down into several components to ease the process of offering quality services. To start with, we aided in applying IT infrastructure architecture concepts to assist WMATA teams responsible for developing infrastructure requirements in specific functional areas with a specific focus and decisive path.

V Group successfully supported the department in this task by capturing all the parameters. Technical analysis and detailed documentation of the current “as-is and to-be” IT infrastructure components were prepared including schematics to describe data centers, networks, redundancy, failover, disaster recovery, storage, messaging, monitoring, and other IT infrastructure components. Performed industry research to define/quantify a fully integrated solution and to assess the most appropriate technology applications to support business requirements.

Moving forward, we reviewed IT infrastructure components/systems across the entire business landscape. V Group’s support assisted in providing IT infrastructure/systems support and transition knowledge to operations and maintenance support staff, as and when it was needed. Worked with the other stakeholders to ensure continuity of planned technologies, in line with the operational and organizational philosophies.

Subsequently, clear communication of the contingency plans with detailed functional and process knowledge for improved ongoing process improvement in relation to network security was completed.

Served as a liaison between the Agency and solution’s contract and helped the client in maintaining IT Infrastructure efficiently, reducing support overhead.
