Cybersecurity Consulting, Metropolitan Transportation Authority

Overview

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is North America's largest transportation network, serving a population of 15.3 million people across a 5,000-square-mile travel area surrounding New York City through Long Island, southeastern New York State, and Connecticut. The MTA network comprises the nation’s largest bus fleet and more subway and commuter rail cars than all other U.S. transit systems combined. The MTA's operating agencies are MTA New York City Transit, MTA Bus, Long Island Railroad, Metro-North Railroad, and MTA Bridges and Tunnels.

Project Scope

MTA was seeking seasoned security professional services with experience evaluating and remediating Cybersecurity risks in large agencies or corporations.

Solution

As prime vendor, V Group Inc. was responsible for identification, mitigation, and remediation of risks for applications, networks and systems within IT and OT environments.

At the outset, we coordinated with vendors, IT, and business units to identify gaps by evaluating business operations, policies, documentation, drawings and by performing system assessments. This work also involved us to provide technical information and guidance to multiple stockholders who would then assist in conducting systems architectural and security analyses, identify risks and provide recommendations and guidance for remediation in presentation formats to Senior Management. We ensured that the network and security configurations introduced into the MTA environment meet defined requirements, security standards, comply with existing policies and follow industry best practices.

With our extensive knowledge of the various IT Security frameworks and standards such as ISO, NIST, CIS, and MITRE and working knowledge of Security Technologies we were able to provide effective solutions to remediate or mitigate security risks and vulnerabilities.
