Implementation and Deployment of BI/ Cognos reports, WMATA

Overview

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) commonly referred to as Metro, is a tri-jurisdictional government agency that operates transit service in the Washington metropolitan area. WMATA was created by the United States Congress as an interstate compact between the District of Columbia, the State of Maryland, and the Commonwealth of Virginia. WMATA provides rapid transit service under the Metrorail name, fixed-route bus service under the Metrobus brand, and paratransit service under the MetroAccess brand. The authority is also part of a public-private partnership that operates the DC Circulator bus system.

Project Scope

WMATA was requiring SME level support for their Business Intelligence / Cognos practice to define BI report requirements and implement and deploy BI reports in multiple functional areas, with the primary focus on metrics and status tracking for WMATA.

Solution

As a prime contractor, V Group has provided support to WMATA in Capital Improvement Program with data sourced from PeopleSoft and other repositories. We have Utilize Cognos 10.2 Report, Query, Analysis, Event, and Workspace Advanced Studios to design and deliver complex reports and widgets. We have also utilized Cognos 10. 2 Framework Mgr to define data sources and metadata, design, and built OLAP cubes. Apart from this, we have also provided support in the design and implementation management dashboards using Cognos 10.2, and transition successfully to the use of Cognos 11 and/or Tableau.
